Once again the Uithoornse river Amstel will be full of action in the weekend of 20 and 21 May. Dozens of teams from all over the world come to Michiel de Ruyter, a canoe and rowing club, for the reoccuring Amsterdam Open canoe polo tournament . That canoe polo tournament invariably guarantees spectacle on the water and entertainment on the shore. Everyone is welcome.

After a few years of absence, the members of Michiel de Ruyter are proud that they can finally get their showpiece back on the water. Partly thanks to the financially aid of the Initiative Fund Uithoorn. That organisation recently donated €1485 to our sporting event. Great news, with this money the Amsterdam Open tournament can show its best side. Dozens of volunteers are happy to roll up their sleeves for this.

Of course, the competitions come first. If you have never seen a canoe polo competition, now is the perfect time. Speed, power, flexibility; it’s all covered, with a schedule full of top teams. This year not only athletes from Germany, France and Denmark will come, but even from Namibia and Singapore. And they all come for the win, so that promises a spectacle on the water.

As a spectator you don’t have to be bored either and we offer a lot of distractions like a beer garden with an outdoor bar, good food and DJs who play their best records all weekend. So come by to taste that unique atmosphere.

Michiel de Ruyter is offering something extra this year for everyone between the ages of 10 and 16. On Friday 19 May there will be a special canoe polo clinic from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Would you like to try this sport on a full playing field? Our youth players and coaches cordially invite you! Sign up and send a mail to amsterdamopen@mdr.nu. Are you over 16? Then the training sessions on Tuesday evening are fun to try out (start time 19:15, no need to register). Or just drop by on May 20 and 21!
